Anatomy of a Successful Community Group

What does a successful Community Group look like?

Having been in charge of Redeemer’s Community Groups for several years now I’ve been trying to get a pulse on what is a successful group. I genuinely believe that groups with a SIMPLE and CLEAR VISION have been extremely effective in Kingdom growth. The leader doesn’t have to be the most dynamic or gifted leader (although a lot of times they are). The group doesn’t have to have the most amazing home as a meeting place (although a lot of times they do). Rather, groups that are obedient to what God has called them to be in this community are thriving, growing and hungry for more. They want Jesus to do in others what he has done in them!

So just what do these groups look like?

In the book of Acts we see a clear and simple pattern of what the early church looked like.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47

So, from this passage, what does a Christ-centered group look like?

Successful Groups spend time reading the Bible together.

Successful Groups spend time hanging out together.

Successful Groups spend time eating together.

Successful Groups spend time praying together.

Successful Groups spend time being on mission together.

The fascinating part about all of this is that this is how God grows his church. By doing these things people are saved. Acts 2:47 says, “…and the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

I would strongly encourage anybody who is not in a Community Group to join one today. You can be a part of a simple group of people with an AMAZING mission of loving other followers of Jesus and bringing others to salvation! For more info contact Pastor Nate at
